Matthew is also an accomplished music producer, composer, and singer-songwriter with over 22 million streams across spotify, apple music and other platforms. With collaborations spanning over 20 years with artists in the UK, Europe, Asia, and the US, he has worked as lead producer, lyricist, writer, top liner, and ghostwriter with major and Indi labels and other media components, Including Warner, Universal, Atlantic, and Polydor music. The early success of his acting and now directing/producing career has always been bolstered and inspired by the many technical and creative aspects of music production and creation. Including sound mixing and design, along with even some informative experiences of scoring for film.
His acting career has often been intertwined with extensive music creation and or producing relationships. For ITV's Musical Drama 'Britannia High' of which he was a lead cast member, he was introduced to a team of the world's most reputable music producers at Peter Gabriel's famous real world studios in Bath, UK: Gary Barlow, Eliot Kennedy, Guy Chambers, Chris Braide, Steve Lipson, Eg White, Steve Mac, Wayne Hector, Gary Go, Lucie Silvas, Ina Wroldsen, Chris Neil, Martin Sutton and even more of the worlds most notable music producers contributed to the show's album, and had the cast working extensively in the studio over a two-year Period.
As a youngster, Matthew attended Sylvia Young theatre school and still looks back with extreme revere and respect for his time and the quality of tuition there. His music composition teacher, Ray Lamb was as "good and tough as it gets" embedded a "lasting discipline" that "without him, I may never have realized was the absolute key to progress." He also met many artists there that he has collaborated with, including long-time friend and award-winning UK RnB, Grime and Hip-hop artist, Loick Essien.
When Matthew moved to the US to play Peter Parker in Julie Taymor's Spiderman: Turn off the dark; he found himself in and out of the studio for the next six months with Bono and Edge, Teese Gohl, British Record-producing legend Steve Lillywhite, and World famous string orchestrator David Campbell, who he went on to collaborate with on his EP No sound at all (2013). Once in the States, more collaborations unfolded, mostly thanks to his music manager and still dear friend Ron Shapiro, who
Introduced him to Duncan Sheik, Marc Thomas, and Regina Spector for collaborations on his own music and theatre projects. Matthew also worked with multiple Academy and Grammy award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz as the lead in his Tony Award-winning revival, recording, and investing in the new (2013) cast album for Pippin the Musical.
Matthew's acting and directing career continues to be his prime focus. But he still collaborates and produces music from his home setup in Williamsburg, NY, developing musicians and helping artists realize their full potential as recording artists. Active relationships include William Smith IV, lead producer and band member of Coyote Mustache, at Greenpoint Recording Collective. More recently, he is collaborating with an impressive team of multiple-time Grammy award-winning writers and producers, including Grammy award winning Matthew Hyde (London), and Grammy award winning composer and producer Marc Dold. As producer his artists and newcomers include DITTA, Harry Shaull, Kinza Surani & Jacob Fjeldheim.
